STYLE CLINICS

by Mary 14. September 2009 10:39

As well as the services I already provide for clients I have recently decided to run regular Style Clinics.  These are open to anyone and everyone who would like some specific advice about any wardrobe issue.

Perhaps you have an important occasion coming up and want to know how to create the wow factor!

Maybe you are stuck with how to accessorise.

You might be starting a new job or are about to go for an interview.

Have you looked at your current wardrobe and felt disillusioned with what you see?

Do you want some advice about what to buy for the coming season?

Are you tired of standing in fitting rooms not knowing if you should buy or not?

The sessions can be booked for half an hour at £25 or an hour at £50, or more if required.

If you have previously had a consultation with me you might just want specific advice about something you have bought or are thinking of buying in which case half an hour might be long enough.  If you have not so far had a colour and style consultation then an hour would be the better option.

The times and days of the style clinics will be decided according to clients' preferences and will mostly be conducted at my home.  In this way I have all my equipment and materials readily to hand.

If you or your friends would like to book a session at one of my clinics please give me a call on 07766 466 688 or email me at mary@maryerrington.co.uk

DRESSING FOR SUCCES ON A DATE - MEN

by Mary 30. July 2009 05:40

Wear a fantastic shirt which fits well, is freshly laundered and ironed for the night out.  T shirts generally look a bit casual unless they are designer and even then they need to fit well and be a good colour.  Footy T shirts are a big no no for us girls.  Bad enough that you are obsessed with the game, don’t remind us when you are out with us!

HOW TO STAY COOL AND STILL LOOK PROFESSIONAL IN THE OFFICE

by Mary 14. July 2009 10:56

With the weather at the hottest it has been for a very long time in this country we can find ourselves wondering what to wear in the workplace that is cool and comfortable but still looks smart and professional.  Follow the tips below:

LADIES
  • To keep you feeling and looking in work mode, as a general rule, avoid wearing anything that you wear on holiday, at the weekend or for going out.
  • Keep to lighter colours and fabrics in natural fibres such as linen and cotton.  There are lots of lightweight and linen or linen mix suits in the stores at the moment.
  • Dresses can be cooler as they are not restrictive around the waist.  Simple shift styles look both smart and professional.  Maxis are not for the office!
  • As long as your legs can take it “no tights” is ok but use a light leg makeup for a smoother and more even look.  Otherwise hold ups are cooler.
  • Knee length formal shorts generally look smarter than cropped trousers which can on many people reduce height and make you look dumpy.  If you do wear cropped trousers keep them tapered and just above the ankle and essentially with heels.  Shorts look great with sandal wedges or a mid heel both of which will be more comfortable than very high heels all day.  If toes are being seen you must make sure feet are in perfect condition – no dry rough skin and wear nail varnish.  No rubber flip-flops!
  • Avoid exposing too much flesh.  Plunging necklines and skinny straps do not look appropriate in the office.  Wear sleeveless tops or crisp short sleeve shirts.  Remember neutral coloured underwear and keep it hidden!
  • This is not the time for fussy hairstyles.  Keep them simple and if you have long hair wearing it up and away from the back of your neck will keep you cooler.
  • Keep accessories simple but colourful.  An eye-catching necklace can change the look of a plain top instantly to something dressier!
  • Earrings are better not too long or dangly – keep those for going out.
  • Keep makeup to a minimum but do wear some.  There are very few women over 30 who don’t look better with a little makeup.  There are some great tinted moisturisers which are more comfortable than a heavy foundation.  Add colour with bronzers and a hint of blusher.  Go easy on the eye makeup – you can always add a little bit more at the end of the day if you are going out straight from work.
  • Keep fragrances light and fresh and you will convey an impression of being calm and in control.  Keep a mini deodorant in your handbag or desk drawer and freshen up with wet-wipes at break times.
  • Keep a bottle of water handy and sip frequently throughout the day.  This way you will remain hydrated, feel less tired and it will also reduce the likelihood of you getting a headache.
  • Last of all smile.  It puts others at ease and makes you more approachable.

HOW TO STAY COOL AND STILL LOOK PROFESSIONAL IN THE OFFICE

by Mary 14. July 2009 10:48

With the weather at the hottest it has been for a very long time in this country we can find ourselves wondering what to wear in the workplace that is cool and comfortable but still looks smart and professional.  Follow the tips below:

MEN
  • To keep you feeling and looking in work mode, as a general rule, avoid wearing anything that you wear on holiday, at the weekend or for going out.
  • Keep to lighter colours and fabrics in natural fibres such as linen and cotton.  There are lots of lightweight and linen or linen mix suits in the stores at the moment.
  • Cotton shirts are more comfortable than polyester.  If your workplace has a formal business dress code wear long sleeved shirts rolled up rather than short sleeves and never wear short sleeves with a suit jacket.  It is now acceptable in many workplaces that no tie be worn but if a tie is expected then loosen it except for formal meetings and when meeting clients.
  • Cotton socks are cooler on the feet.  Take a spare pair to change at lunchtime if your feet sweat a lot.  Alternate your shoes daily to give them time to dry out.  Your shoes will smell less and your feet will be more comfortable.  Leather shoes are more comfortable and professional than manmade materials.  Avoid trainers or canvas shoes and no rubber flip-flops!
  • If you have a dress down code and jeans are permitted keep to darker shades.  Bleached and or torn styles are not appropriate in the office.
  • A light aftershave is pleasant – keep to fresh or citrus fragrances during the summer
  • Daily showers and deodorant are essential.  If you suffer excessively with a sweat problem many offices have a shower facility for use at break times.  Otherwise carry deodorant and plenty of wet-wipes to freshen up throughout the day.  There is nothing worse than being in the presence of someone with body odour at work.
  • Wash hair daily and keep it short and well groomed.  You should visit your hairdresser at least once every 6 to 8 weeks.  Keep styling products to a minimum.  Lank greasy hair looks very unprofessional.
  • Keep a bottle of water and sip frequently throughout the day.  This way you will remain hydrated, feel less tired and it will also reduce the likelihood of you getting a headache
  • Last of all smile.  It puts others at ease and makes you more approachable.
