Accessories in the Workplace

by Mary 12. July 2010 07:50
Accessories are an important part of your overall appearance and should match your dress code.  For example sports watches are exactly that and look out of place with corporate attire.  On men necklaces, bracelets, and chains that are visible detract from a formal business look.  Where women’s jewellery is concerned avoid pieces that clank, make noise or are overly cute when conducting business.  Your jewellery should compliment your look rather than be a distraction.  Call me on 07766 466 688 for more tips and advice

Working with young people

by Mary 19. May 2010 04:52
In recent months I have been carrying out workshops with groups of young people in schools on behalf of Connexions in Liverpool.  These have been centred round Image – what it means, the importance of, and how to create an image that encourages others to want to get to know you better.  People like to associate with people like themselves.  If you don’t look enough like them in terms of dress, manner or position you will be perceived as an outsider.  They may never feel comfortable enough to find out more about you or do business with you.  By understanding how to project a positive and appropriate image the students have greater self-confidence and self-esteem.  I find these sessions very rewarding and look forward to working alongside Connexions and other similar organisations in the near future.  Please call me on 07766 466 688 if you would like to find out more.

STYLE CLINICS

by Mary 14. September 2009 10:39

As well as the services I already provide for clients I have recently decided to run regular Style Clinics.  These are open to anyone and everyone who would like some specific advice about any wardrobe issue.

Perhaps you have an important occasion coming up and want to know how to create the wow factor!

Maybe you are stuck with how to accessorise.

You might be starting a new job or are about to go for an interview.

Have you looked at your current wardrobe and felt disillusioned with what you see?

Do you want some advice about what to buy for the coming season?

Are you tired of standing in fitting rooms not knowing if you should buy or not?

The sessions can be booked for half an hour at £25 or an hour at £50, or more if required.

If you have previously had a consultation with me you might just want specific advice about something you have bought or are thinking of buying in which case half an hour might be long enough.  If you have not so far had a colour and style consultation then an hour would be the better option.

The times and days of the style clinics will be decided according to clients' preferences and will mostly be conducted at my home.  In this way I have all my equipment and materials readily to hand.

If you or your friends would like to book a session at one of my clinics please give me a call on 07766 466 688 or email me at mary@maryerrington.co.uk

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS ON A DATE - MEN

by Mary 20. August 2009 03:36

For all you single men here are some more tips for making a good first impression with the ladies:

Cleanliness is next to godliness so they say but in my book it is the single most important thing when going out socialising with everyone other than your mates who are more likely to forgive a bit of body odour.  Guy’s we won’t!  Jump in the shower just before you get ready.  Use aftershave, we love it BUT don't overdo it - we want to smell it when we get close to you not be knocked out by it at 20 paces!!

If you have designer stubble or any facial hair make sure it looks well groomed and not like you forgot or couldn’t be bothered to shave.  What else might you not be bothered to do is the message!

Taking care with your appearance gives the message that you care about yourself and that is the best starting point for caring about someone else.  We want a man to be proud of not one we have to make excuses for or coax, bully or shame in to smartening himself up!  Good luck guys!

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS ON A DATE - WOMEN

by Mary 13. August 2009 05:11

  • Choose one of your assets to accentuate not all of them.  Otherwise why would he want to date you again?  He has seen it all the first time and in his mind if he likes what he sees he will want to cut to the chase so to speak.  A bit of mystery holds a man’s interest more than anything else.

  • Aim for looking approachable rather than too perfect and polished - that can be scary for men.  They want to look after you and protect you not feel intimidated by you.

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS ON A DATE - MEN

by Mary 6. August 2009 04:57

Shoes! Right guys it is not ok to throw on a pair of trainers, however new and bright white, to go out.  Trainers are for the gym or for exercising not dating.  We do look at shoes and judge you on what we see.  They should be clean and appropriate for the rest of your outfit.  Work shoes aren’t right either.  Invest in some great casual shoes and wear them!  Clean socks every day and ones that match your trousers.  Not white, not jokey, not sports socks.

DRESSING FOR SUCCESS ON A DATE - GIRLS

by Mary 6. August 2009 04:42
Girls one of the most important things to remember when you are going on a date is the message your clothes are giving your date.  You need to decide what message you want to send.  Do you for instance want to look attractive, alluring and sexy or tarty and easy?  If you want a man to respect you and want to get to know you choose the first option.  Men love the second but not for a girlfriend so decide what it is you are looking for.

  • Wear something that you feel relaxed and comfortable in – no not your joggers or pyjamas!  I mean something you have tried on and know you won’t be checking that it hasn’t ridden up, slipped down, or revealed more than you thought it would.
  • Try your outfit on in the type of light you will be in on your date.  If you are meeting your date in the daytime try your outfit on in the daytime and not late at night in artificial light.  Similarly if you are dining by candlelight the colour of your outfit in daylight might be really pretty but at night might be bland and uninteresting.  Colours can look very different in different types of light.

  • Sometimes taking a photo of yourself gives you a better idea of how something looks than just looking in the mirror.  Have you ever looked at photos of yourself and thought “oh my god”.  Well better to find that out before a date than during or after!

DRESSING FOR SUCCES ON A DATE - MEN

by Mary 30. July 2009 05:40

Wear a fantastic shirt which fits well, is freshly laundered and ironed for the night out.  T shirts generally look a bit casual unless they are designer and even then they need to fit well and be a good colour.  Footy T shirts are a big no no for us girls.  Bad enough that you are obsessed with the game, don’t remind us when you are out with us!
